Call for Grant Proposals: Commonwealth Foundation (Deadline 4th January 2017)

BACKGROUND: The Commonwealth Foundation launched its general grants call on 1st December 2016. These grants are geared towards sustainable development projects that contribute to effective, responsive and accountable governance with civil society participation.

This grant is open to applications for projects in Africa, the AMERICAS, Asia and Europe.

Focus areas must centre on one or more of the following:

  • Creative expression
  • Capacity development
  • Constructive engagement
  • Learning and sharing

GRANT BUDGET: No more than £30,000 per year or less


  • The applicant is a registered national or regional civil society organisation.
  • The applicant is applying for funding for one to three years
  • The average of the applicant’s total income over the last two years is less than £3m
  • The project must address one of the four focus areas
  • The project will take place in an eligible Commonwealth Foundation member country
  • The project has not yet started
  • The application includes counterpart resourcing of a minimum of 10% of the total project budget. Applicants will be required to provide a detailed budget at full application stage where counterpart resourcing must be clearly reflected.
  • The applicant does not have an existing grant from the Commonwealth Foundation at the time the application window is opened. Please note that in order for a recent grantee to be eligible they must have submitted all reports on existing grants and received notification that the existing grant is closed.

Call for Concept Notes-Access to Small Grants (Caribbean Policy Development Centre): Application Deadline 16th DEC 2016

BACKGROUND: The Caribbean Policy Development Centre in partnership with the European Commission (EC) has commenced a joint three year grant partnership that seeks to build the capacity of the Non-Governmental Sector in the Caribbean through the implementation of a number of specific actions.

CPDC invites NGO organisations and active networks to apply for a small grant which would aid vulnerable groups throughout the region. Link to comprehensive Call for Concept Note.

  • Minimum: EUR 8,000
  • Maximum: EUR 10,000

(1) In order to be eligible for a grant, the applicant must:

  • Be non-profit-making and
  • Be a legally registered organisation and
  • Be established1 in a Member State of CARIFORUM (Antigua & and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago) and
  • Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project and
  • Proven track record of at least 2 years working with the respective vulnerable group

Call for NGO Proposals: GEF Small Grants Programme – UNDP (Deadline 7th November 2016)

Background: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) provides civil society organizations with technical and financial support in the form of grant funding, to projects focused on environmental conservation and restoration, while enhancing people’s livelihoods and well‐being.

These environment‐centered ‘small grant projects’ embody the very essence of sustainable development by “thinking globally acting locally.” The grant funding is now in its Operational Phase 6 (OP6), the objective of which is, “to support the creation of global environmental benefits and the safeguarding of the global environment through community and local solutions that complement and add value to national and global level action”.

Civil society organisations can apply for grants in the following areas:

  • Community landscape/ seascape conservation
  • Climate smart innovative agro‐ecology
  • Low carbon energy access co‐benefits
  • Local to global chemical management coalitions


  • Planning Grant: a tool to assist with the development of proposals for Project Grants. These grant applications cannot exceed USD $ 5,000, and are used to: 1. Help civil society organizations to write better proposals by assessing problems more carefully and; 2. Ensure a participatory approach is used in project development and design e.g. facilitating stakeholder consultations to guide proposal development.
  • Full Project Grant: used to identify environmental problems and implement activities that will be used to address them. A Project Grant cannot exceed USD $ 50,000.

ELIGIBLE ORGANISATIONS:  Any civil society organization‐ provided it is registered as a non‐profit company under the 1995 Companies Act, or has a Letter of Registration from a Government Ministry, such as Ministry of Community Development of Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.

DEADLINE: Applicant should complete a “Project Concept Template” and submit it no later than Monday 7th November, 2016.

Call for Nominations: 2016 JB Fernandes Award for NGO Excellence in Trinidad & Tobago

Does your NGO or civil society organization deserve recognition?

Nominations are open for the 2016 JB Fernandes Award for NGO Excellence in Trinidad & TobagoSponsored by the JB Fernandes Memorial Trust, the Award celebrates organisations in Trinidad and Tobago that are national models of excellence, improving their communities and utilising best practices in nonprofit management.

The winning organisation will receive $5,000 US and be honored at the 2016 T&T NGO Professionals Institute, which will be held in June 2016 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The purpose of the award is to:

  • Formally honor the NGO, CBO and civil society profession and communicate the positive impact that these organizations have in the communities, villages and neighborhoods throughout Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Highlight the best practices of NGOs (effective management, accountability, good governance);
  • Identify emerging trends and underrepresented areas in the sector;
  • Identify key leaders who will shape the sector

The nomination deadline is WEDNESDAY, 23RD MARCH has been extended to WEDNESDAY, 30TH MARCH 2016.

Call for Proposals: Small Grants Programme – US Embassy Trinidad & Tobago

WHAT: The U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain seeks to fund creative and, sustainable projects that promote human rights, civilian security, youth outreach, entrepreneurship and good governance, while furthering peopleto-people and institutional ties between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. The Embassy invites organizations to submit grant proposals through its Public Affairs Small Grants Program. Each project must contribute to societal and/or institutional growth in Trinidad and Tobago.

FUNDING: The maximum amount per award for each proposal is US$10,000. The U.S. Embassy Port of Spain reserves the right to award less or more than that requested by the applicant. Grant proposals with budgets less than $10,000 will receive special attention.

WHEN: All applications must be submitted to ptspas@state.gov by 1st November 2015 or 1st March 2016.
