UNDP Session on T&T NGO Funding Opportunities on January 11, 2014

Message from Citizen Security Programme via Veni Apwann to T&T NGOs about a session on funding opportunities from the UNDP Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme:

“The UNDP Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) embodies the very essence of sustainable development by “thinking globally acting locally.”  By providing financial and technical support to projects that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people’s well-being and livelihoods, SGP demonstrates that community action can maintain the fine balance between human needs and environmental imperatives. The UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme has been operating in T&T for over 17 years and has successfully funded over 85 projects throughout T&T.

SGP T&T is on a mission to raise awareness locally on the Programme and has embarked on an Environmental Awareness Caravan Programme. GEF SGP T&T will be visiting community organisations throughout T&T to inform organisations on available funding from GEF SGP.

The first session will be held with CSOs in North Trinidad – St. Ann’s and environs.

As such UNDP GEF SGP T&T wishes to invite organisations (1-2 people) to participate in a Community Meeting at the Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project in St. Ann’s on Saturday 11th January 2014 from 10am to 12noon.”

“The aim of this session is to raise awareness of the GEF SGP so that Civil Society Groups can access funding from the GEF SGP to implement environmental projects focused on one of the GEF Focal Areas namely: Biodiversity, Climate Change, Chemicals, International Waters and Land Degradation.

CSOs such as Community Based Organisations and Non- Governmental Organisations can access funding of up to US$50 000 for environmentally related projects.

This session will be very beneficial to your organisation and can provide an avenue to make a positive environmental change in T&T, as well as increase the capacity of your organisation to implement such projects.

If you are associated with a Non-Profit Civil Society Organisation and are interested in attending please contact the SGP Office at (868) 623-7056 ext 254 or email rissa.edoo@undp.org.  Please confirm your attendance by Wednesday 8th January 2014.”
